PRJ2000: Cannot Filter on Group Summary Values (242654)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Project 2000

This article was previously published under Q242654

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Project, when you apply a filter that uses either the Group By Summary field or values of a group summary row as criteria for a filter, tasks in a task view or resources in a resource view may not be displayed.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Microsoft Project does not filter using either the Group By Summary field or values of a group summary row as criteria for a filter.

The Group By Summary field indicates whether summary rows for tasks in a task view or resources in a resource view are grouped by a particular category. There can be multiple levels of groupings, for example, groupings by priority within phases.

WORKAROUND

You can hide the detail tasks for the group summary tasks that you do not want to see. This hides the details of the group summaries that you do not want to see, but the group summaries are still displayed. To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click the heading of the Task Name column (Resource Name if in a resource view) to select all of the rows.
  2. On the Project menu, point to Outline, and click Hide Subtasks.
  3. Select the group summary rows for which you want to see the detailed tasks (or resources if in a resource view).
  4. On the Project menu, point to Outline, and click Show Subtasks.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
