PRB: Cannot Install from Multiple CDs or Floppies on a Network Share (241915)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows Installer 1.0
- Microsoft Windows Installer 1.1
This article was previously published under Q241915 SYMPTOMS
If an installation that spans more than one floppy disk or CD Rom is placed on a network share for remote installation, the installation will fail and return the following error message:
Error 1374. Could not locate source cabinet: 'H:\test.cab'.
where H:\ is the mapped drive and test.cab is a cabinet file located on the second disk.
CAUSE
When installing remotely, multiple media installations from a network share are not supported.
The Windows Installer assumes that all of the cabinets are on the network share and does not prompt for a disk when they are not.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, create an administrative installation image of the installation on the network share.
STATUS
This behavior is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
Installations on the local drive support multiple media.
