FIX: MSMQ Direct Format Does Not Allow Read Access (241774)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Message Queue Server (MSMQ) 1.0
This article was previously published under Q241774 SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Message Queuing does not allow opening a handle for receive access using DIRECT= format names. This restricts the ability of applications to access local queues when offline and the application only has access to the local queue name but not it's GUID.
CAUSE
This restriction is "by design" but has been lifted due to customer requests.
RESOLUTION
Restrictions on local public queues through the use of DIRECT= format names has been changed to allow this syntax. This applies equally to public and private queues, and to all functions that allow for use of DIRECT= format names.
NOTE: Receiving messages using the DIRECT= format name may only be done with local queues.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
This bug was corrected in Windows NT4 Service Pack 6.
