OL2002: Sent Mail Disappears with Focal Point Extensions Loaded (241713)

SYMPTOMS

In Outlook, the following behaviors may occur:
  • If you send a message, the message may seem to disappear; it does not appear in the Outbox or Sent Items folders. -or-

  • If you send a message, when the recipient receives the message it may not contain any text in the Subject or Body fields. -or-

  • If you save a message to the Drafts folder, the text in the body of the message is lost and only the To and Subject fields still contain information.

CAUSE

These behaviors may occur if you have Global Village Communication's Focal Point extensions on your computer. Focal Point is software that integrates e-mail, voicemail, fax paging, data communications, and Internet access. Focal Point software can come pre-installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, use the Outlook Add-In Manager to turn off the Focal Point extensions:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the Other tab, and then click Advanced Options.
  3. In Advanced Options, click Add-In Manager.
  4. In the list of add-ins, click to clear the check box for any add-in that references the Focal Point software.
  5. Click OK three times to close all of the dialog boxes.
  6. On the File menu, click Exit and Log Off.

    NOTE: If you use the Internet Mail Only (IMO) installation option, click Exit on the File menu.
  7. If you use the Corporate or Workgroup installation option, press CTL+ALT+DELETE. Make sure that Mapisp32 is not displayed in the list. If it is, either wait for it to stop running or end the task.
  8. Restart Outlook.
