The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 4.5a
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.0
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.1
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.1 (GA)
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.1 SP1
- Microsoft Data Access Components 2.1 SP2
This article was previously published under Q241433 SYMPTOMS
Microsoft Works 4.5a incorrectly installs the following OLE DB component Dynamic-Link Libraries (DLLs) into the Windows system folder (for example, C:\Winnt\System32) instead of the proper location. The following files should be placed in [Drive]\Program Files\Common Files\System\Ole Db\ folder:
- Msdadc.dll
- Msdaer.dll
- Msdaerr.dll
- Msjtor35.dll
Because these files may be older than required by your application, your application may cease to work properly. This problem occurs because your application uses these older versions of the DLLs that the Microsoft Works setup last registered.
CAUSE
This problem occurs only if you install the Microsoft Works Calendar 1.0 component that ships with Microsoft Works 4.5a.
RESOLUTION
To resolve the problem, install the newest version of Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) after installing Microsoft Works. Re-installing Microsoft Data Access Components will copy the newer files to the OLE DB folder and re-register the components.
You can acquire the latest version of Microsoft Data Access Components at the following Web site:
