"Show File Attributes in Detail View" Option Not Available in Windows 98 Second Edition (241380)

SYMPTOMS

When you click the View tab in the Folder Options dialog box, the Show File Attributes in Detail View option may not appear in the Advanced Settings box.

CAUSE

The Show File Attributes in Detail View option is included in Microsoft Windows 98, but not in Windows 98 Second Edition.

RESOLUTION

WARNING: If you use Registry Editor incorrectly, you may cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that you can solve problems that result from using Registry Editor incorrectly. Use Registry Editor at your own risk.

To view attributes in Detail view, you can modify the registry:
  1. Start Registry Editor (Regedit.exe).
  2. Locate the following registry key:

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\Advanced

  3. Change the data value of the ShowAttribCol value to 1.

    NOTE: To remove the Attributes column in Detail view, change the data value to 0.
  4. Quit Registry Editor.

STATUS

This behavior is by design.
