System Policy Editor characters not displayed correctly in Office (241343)

SYMPTOMS

In the Microsoft Office 2000 System Policy Editor, bidirectional (right-to-left) characters may not be displayed correctly. This may occur in customizable error messages, or other user-defined text fields.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are true:
  • You are running a bidirectional version of Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98.
  • You are typing bidirectional text in the Microsoft Office 2000 System Policy Editor.
  • You are running an English version of Microsoft Office 2000.

WORKAROUND

When typing text in the Office 2000 System Policy Editor, type your text in English or some other Western European language (Latin 1, Code Page 1252).

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.

MORE INFORMATION

Bidirectional text is not supported in the Microsoft Office 2000 System Policy Editor running on Microsoft Windows 95 or Microsoft Windows 98. This behavior does not occur when running the localized bidirectional version of Microsoft Office 2000, operating system, and System Policy Editor.
