PI2000 Error Message: File Is Linked to Missing Export <Filename> (241129)

When you attempt to start Picture It! 2000 or Picture It! Express 2000, you may receive one of the following error messages:
When you dismiss the error message, the program does not start.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if either the Mfc42.dll or the Msvcrt.dll file is damaged, missing, or an incorrect version.
This behavior has been reported with computers on which the the Olympus Camedia software version 4.0 is installed. This software is included with the Olympus D-4000 Zoom camera.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, reinstall the appropriate file or files. To do this, use the following methods.
Rename and then Reinstall the Mfc42.dll File
To rename and then reinstall the Mfc42.dll file:
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- In the Named box, type mfc42.dll.
- In the Look in box, click My Computer, and then click Find Now.
- In the list of found files, right-click the Mfc42.dll file, and then click Rename.
- Type mfc42.old, and then press ENTER.
If more than one copy of the Mfc42.dll file is in the list of found files, repeat steps four and five for each copy of the file. - Insert the Picture It! 2000 or Picture It! Express 2000 Disc 1 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. When you insert the CD-ROM, press and hold down the SHIFT key to prevent the program from starting automatically.
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- In the Named box, type mfc42.dll.
- In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
- In the list of found files, right-click the Mfc42.dll file, and then click Copy.
- Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
- In the left pane, double-click the folder in which Microsoft Windows is installed.
- In the right pane, double-click the System folder.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
- Quit Windows Explorer, and then restart the computer.
Rename and then Reinstall the Msvcrt.dll File
To rename and then reinstall the Msvcrt.dll file:
- Click Start, and then click Shut Down.
- Click Restart in MS-DOS mode, and then click OK.
- When the computer starts in MS-DOS mode, type the following commands at the command prompt, pressing ENTER after you type each line:
cd system
ren msvcrt.dll msvcrt.old
exit
- When Windows starts, insert the Picture It! 2000 or Picture It! Express 2000 Disc 1 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive. Press and hold down the SHIFT key when you insert the CD-ROM to prevent the program from starting automatically.
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- In the Named box, type msvcrt.dll.
- In the Look in box, click the CD-ROM drive, and then click Find Now.
- In the list of found files, right-click the Msvcrt.dll file, and then click Copy.
- Click Start, point to Programs, and then click Windows Explorer.
- In the left pane, double-click the folder in which Microsoft Windows is installed.
- In the right pane, double-click the System folder.
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
- Quit Windows Explorer, and then restart the computer.
