OL2000: (CW) ErrMsg: Unable to Initialize the DAO/Jet DB Engine (241116)

NOTE: The procedures in this article only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate or Workgroup option. With this option, you can use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. To determine your installation type, click About Microsoft Outlook on the Help menu. If you have the Corporate or Workgroup installation, you see "Corporate or Workgroup".

SYMPTOMS

When you use Outlook on a Compaq Presario 1600 or 4800 series computer, or a Gateway 2000 computer equipped with a Telepath voice modem, you may receive one of the following error messages:

Unable to initialize the DAO/Jet db engine

Invalid Argument

DAOTableDef or QueryDef not Open

RESOLUTION

Choose one of the following methods to correct this problem.

Remove the Compaq or Telephony Address Book

To remove the service from the profile:

On the Tools menu, click Services.
On the Services tab, click Compaq Address Book or Telephony Address Book, and click Remove.
Click OK.

Obtain a Compaq SoftPaq

If you use a Compaq 4800 series computer, obtain and install the Compaq SoftPaq Number SP6266. This utility and information about its installation and use is available on the Compaq Web site:

If you use a Compaq 1600 series computer, obtain and install the Compaq SoftPaq Number SP4274 (SP4274.exe). This utility and information about its installation and use is available on the Compaq FTP site at the following address:
