SYMPTOMS

When you try to install Microsoft Office 2000, the following error message may appear:
A newer version of DCOM95 had been installed. To override, you must uninstall the current version first.
Your only option on the dialog box is to click OK.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when the following conditions are true:
  • You are running Microsoft Windows 95.

    -and-

  • You installed Distributed Component Object Model (DCOM) 95 version 1.3 or later.

    -and-

  • You are trying to install Microsoft Office 2000.

RESOLUTION

You can ignore the message. Click OK when you see the message, and the installation is completed successfully.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
