The Address Book program in Microsoft Works is the Microsoft Windows Address Book. This article describes how to import data from a Microsoft Works database file into the Windows Address Book.

Microsoft recommends that you use the Windows Address Book to merge data with the Works word processor. Data stored in the Windows Address Book can also be used with the Microsoft Works Calendar and Microsoft Outlook Express.

NOTE: You can use these methods to import data from database files created by using earlier versions of Works.

Use the Address Book Converter

To import data into the Windows Address Book by using the Address Book Converter:
  1. In the Works Task Launcher, click the Programs tab.
  2. Click Address Book, and then click Address book converter.
  3. Click Start this task, and then follow the instructions on the screen to import your database file data.

Import Data from Within the Windows Address Book

To import data from a Works database file from within the Windows Address Book:
  1. Start Works.
  2. In the Works Task Launcher, click the Programs tab.
  3. Click Address Book, and then click Start the Address Book.
  4. On the File menu, point to Import, and then click Other Address Book.
  5. Click Works address book (Works database file), and then click Import.
  6. Follow the instructions on the screen to import the data.
When you import data from a Works database file, the database file is not deleted. You can use the older database file for reference or as a backup.
