Certificate Services Message Indicates Computer Cannot Be Renamed (241027)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
This article was previously published under Q241027 SUMMARY
While you are installing Certificate Services in Windows 2000 Server, you may receive the following message:
After installing Certificate Services, the computer cannot be renamed and the computer cannot join or be removed from a domain. Do you wish to continue?
MORE INFORMATION
The message is displayed because the certificate information becomes invalid if the computer is renamed or if the domain membership changes while the server is issuing certificates.
If you uninstall Certificate Services by using the Add/Remove Programs tool in Control Panel, you can then rename the computer and change the domain membership information.
