Users Receive Installer Message for Features After Programs Installed by Administrator (240966)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Advanced Server
- Microsoft Windows 2000 Datacenter Server
This article was previously published under Q240966 SYMPTOMS
After an administrator installs all of the features for programs of an office suite (for example, Microsoft Office 2000) on a computer running Windows 2000 and sets the features to be "Run from My Computer", the expectation is that programs are completely installled and that users do not receive any Windows Installer notification messages.
However, when users start those programs and use different features of the programs (for example, SpellCheck and Office Assistant), these features are installed on each user's computer at first usage.
CAUSE
This problem occurs because the feature (for example, SpellCheck in Microsoft Word) is associated with short-cuts during Setup.
STATUS
This is by design.
MORE INFORMATION
The shared components are in effect hidden during the setup process of the office suite, and there is nothing in the package or transform that triggers their installation until they are used. This is how the package and transform tools were written.
