PUB 2000: Text Formatting Lost When You Use the Calendar Wizard (240773)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Publisher 2000

This article was previously published under Q240773

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Calendar Wizard to create a calendar and then change the text size or color on more than one page, the changes you make may be lost.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Publisher automatically synchronizes similar elements (called Smart Objects) or repeated design elements (such as a logo, coupon, ad, calendar, or personal information components) that are associated with a Publisher wizard.

When you change a Smart Object or repeated design element, all related elements are changed automatically to prevent you from having to change each element individually.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue:
  1. After Publisher synchronizes similar objects in your publication, click Undo Synchronize on the Edit menu.

NOTE: While Publisher is synchronizing your publication a "Changing Your Publication" message is briefly displayed.
  2. After you undo the synchronized changes, click Save on the File menu.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Publisher 2000.

MORE INFORMATION

If you want to re-synchronize your publication:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. Click the User Assistance tab.
  3. Click Click to reset wizard synchronizing, and then click OK.
When you re-synchronize your publication, similar objects are not automatically synchronized. However, as soon as you make a change to the publication, the objects are synchronized.
