If you try to change the slide image on the notes master by making it wider or taller than the slide, it does not update the slide images on the notes pages to be wider or taller in proportion to the slide dimension.
Specifically, you cannot distort the image size. For instance if you try to make the image wider in proportion to the height of the slide on the notes master, it has no effect on the slide image on the notes pages.

Although you can distort the slide image shape on the notes master, the actual slide images created from the slides themselves maintain the same proportions as the actual slides, no matter what is on the notes master.
