Homepub 2K Err Msg: Your Display Has Less Than 256 Colors (240754)

SYMPTOMS

When you start one of the programs listed at the beginning of this article, you may receive the following error message:

Your display has less than 256 colors. Do you want to continue anyway?

To change settings, click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. Double-click the Display icon, and then click the Settings tab.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if the Microsoft Windows color palette setting is set to 16 colors.

RESOLUTION

To run the programs listed at the beginning of this article, set the Windows color palette to 256 colors or higher. To do this:

  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Display.
  3. Click the Settings tab.
  4. In the Color Palette or Colors box, click one of the following settings, and then click OK:

    • 256 Colors
    • High Color (16 bit)
    • True Color (32 bit)
  5. If you are prompted to restart the computer, do so.
