CG5: No Categories Displayed When You Start Clip Gallery (240742)

When you start Microsoft Clip Gallery 5.0, you may experience one of the following symptoms: - An empty window is displayed.
-or-
- No categories are visible.
-or-
- Only categories that you created yourself are visible.
You may also receive a message that is similar to the following:
There were no clips found matching your request. Try a different media tab or keyword.
No matter which tab you click, the message remains the same. The message also remains the same if you click the All Categories icon or press ALT+HOME.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs if the Clip Gallery catalog file (Cagcat50.mmc) is not properly registered with Clip Gallery 5.0.
The Cagcat50.mmc file is the media catalog that contains all of the categories for Microsoft Office 2000 and related programs.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, use any of the following methods. NOTE: If Clip Gallery 5.0 is part of Office 2000 or any standalone programs from the Office 2000 family, use method 1 to correct this problem. Otherwise, use method 2 first.
Method 1: Repair Office
You can follow these steps from any Office 2000 program, except for Microsoft PhotoDraw 2000, version 1.0. - Close all programs that are open.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click the Add/Remove Programs icon.
- In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click your Microsoft Office 2000 installation, and then click Add/Remove.
- In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.
- In the Reinstall/Repair Microsoft Office 2000 dialog box, click to select Repair errors in my Office installation, and then click Finish.
- When the Office Repair is finished, you may be prompted to restart Windows. If you are, click Yes and let Windows restart.
Method 2: ReinstallNOTE: Because it is not possible to describe all the programs that install Clip Gallery 5.0, the following steps only apply to the reinstallation of Clip Gallery from Office 2000. NOTE: Because there are several versions of Microsoft Windows, the following steps may be different on your computer. If they are, see your product documentation to complete these steps. - Quit all programs that are open.
- Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
- In Control Panel, double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- In the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, click your Microsoft Office 2000 installation, and then click Add/Remove.
- In the Microsoft Office 2000 Maintenance Mode dialog box, click Repair Office.
- In the Reinstall/Repair Microsoft Office 2000 dialog box, click Reinstall Office, and then click Finish.
- When the Office Repair is finished, you may be prompted to restart Windows. If you are, click Yes and let Windows restart.
Method 3: Copy from CD-ROM
The Cagcat50.mmc file is stored in the following folder on almost all installation CD-ROMs:
Pfiles\Common\Msshared\Clipart\Cagcat50
You must copy the Cagcat50.mmc file into the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Clipart\Cagcat50
- In My Computer or Windows Explorer, open the CD-ROM from which you installed Clip Gallery 5.0, and then select the following file:
Pfiles\Common\Msshared\Clipart\Cagcat50\Cagcat50.mmc
- On the Edit menu, click Copy.
- Open the following folder:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\Clipart\CagCat50
- On the Edit menu, click Paste.
