Profile Quota Implementation May Cause Terminal Server Session to Hang (240652)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0 Terminal Server Edition SP4

This article was previously published under Q240652

SYMPTOMS

Implementing profile quotas may cause Terminal Server sessions to stop responding (hang). This behavior occurs when the terminal connection is set to run a program instead of running the default desktop.

In this case, when you quit the specified program, the Terminal Server session does not terminate. An administrator must kill the hung session on the server before the user can use his or her account again.

CAUSE

Profile quota implementation is not supported in the initial program environment. A fix has been generated to disable profile quotas if the connection is set to run a program instead of the default desktop.
