Encarta World Atlas 2000: BACKSPACE Key Opens Previously Opened Web Page (240633)

SYMPTOMS

When you press the BACKSPACE key to delete data you type in a field on a Web page open in Microsoft Encarta World Atlas 2000 or Microsoft Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2001, the previously opened Web page may be opened unexpectedly.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you configure your Web browser to run from within Encarta World Atlas 2000 or Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2001.

When you run your Web browser from within Encarta World Atlas 2000 or Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2001, the functionality of the BACKSPACE key is the the same as the functionality of the Back button on the Web browser's toolbar.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this issue from occurring, use one of the following methods.
  • Press the DELETE key instead of the BACKSPACE key to delete data you type in a field on a Web page.

  • Configure Encarta World Atlas 2000 or Encarta Interactive World Atlas 2001 to run your default Web browser externally when you click a Web Link:

    1. On the Options menu, click Settings.
    2. Click to clear the Browse Web Links within Encarta Interactive World Atlas check box.
    3. Click OK.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
