The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Outlook 98
  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows

This article was previously published under Q240447

SYMPTOMS

When you click File on the Insert menu in an HTML, Plain Text, or Microsoft Word formatted message, you have no option to insert a file as a shortcut into the message.

RESOLUTION

Use Microsoft Outlook Rich Text as your message format to insert a shortcut into a message.

MORE INFORMATION

Using Microsoft Word as the message format does not allow you to insert a shortcut when you use Word 97. If you use Outlook 98 with Word 2000 and Word is the format, you can insert a shortcut. Microsoft recommends that if you use Word 2000, you also use Outlook 2000 for best compatibility.

To set the default message format:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. On the Mail Format tab, click the Send in this message format list to choose your default format. The choices are HTML, Microsoft Outlook Rich Text, Plain Text, or Microsoft Word.
  3. Click OK.
