Site Server Search Catalog Propagation Fails (240379)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Site Server 3.0

This article was previously published under Q240379

SYMPTOMS

When you use Site Server Search to build and propagate a catalog, the catalog propagates on the initial crawl, but fails to propagate on subsequent crawls. In the application event log, the following events are listed:
Event ID: 7056
Indexer received "Access Denied" error while propagating to <NERV> Search server in project <aglarond>. This usually results from an incorrect propagation account setup. Please verify that the propagation account is valid.
Event ID: 7012
An error occurred during propagation in project <aglarond> to search server <NERV>. Error: 80070002 - The system cannot find the file specified. .

CAUSE

The noise files (noise.*) located in <Site Server Root>\data\search\config and <Site Server Root>\data\search\projects\<catalog name>\build\ixbuild may be marked as read-only.

RESOLUTION

Make sure that the noise.* files are marked as read/write.

MORE INFORMATION

During the crawl process, the noise files (noise.*) are copied from <site server root>\data\search\config to <site server root>\data\search\projects\<catalog name>\build\ixbuild. During each build, if the files already exist in the destination folder and are read-only, the files are not overwritten and propagation fails.
