This article was previously published under Q240357

SYMPTOMS

When you install Visual InterDev 1.0 from Visual Studio 97 on a Windows 2000-based computer, you may receive an error message stating that you need to install Microsoft Internet Explorer 3.01.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs because Visual Studio 97 Master Setup attempts to detect a registry key that does not exist in Windows 2000, so Setup assumes Internet Explorer 3.01 or later is not installed.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, use either of the following methods:
  • Install Visual InterDev from the original CD-ROM by running the following command:

    cd2\vi1.0\client\setup.exe

  • Upgrade to the latest version of Visual Studio.

MORE INFORMATION

The error message occurs only with Visual Studio 97.
