FIX: Multiple Attachments not Sent Correctly Using xp_sendmail (240172)

SYMPTOMS
Using xp_sendmail to send e-mail messages that have more than one file attachment, results in the first file being attached N number of times (where N is the number of file attachments in the xp_sendmail statement).
For example, running the following statement: xp_sendmail @recipients = "User1", @subject = "Attachment Test", @attachments = 'c:\test1.txt;c:\test2.txt'
results in recipient User1 receiving a message with file attachment test1.txt attached twice (and attachment test2.txt is not attached at all.
CAUSE
A pointer to the attachment structures was not being incremented properly if the attachment count was greater than 1. Therefore, an attachment count greater that 1 references the content in the first attachment structure repeatedly.
RESOLUTIONA supported fix is now available from Microsoft, but it is only intended to correct the problem that is described in this article. Apply it only to computers that are experiencing this specific problem. This fix may receive additional testing. Therefore, if you are not severely affected by this problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next SQL Server service pack that contains this hotfix.
