FIX: Multiple Attachments not Sent Correctly Using xp_sendmail (240172)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft SQL Server 6.5

This article was previously published under Q240172
BUG #: 18657 (SQLBUG_65),18722 (SQLBUG_65)

SYMPTOMS

Using xp_sendmail to send e-mail messages that have more than one file attachment, results in the first file being attached N number of times (where N is the number of file attachments in the xp_sendmail statement).

For example, running the following statement:

xp_sendmail @recipients = "User1", @subject = "Attachment Test", @attachments = 'c:\test1.txt;c:\test2.txt'

results in recipient User1 receiving a message with file attachment test1.txt attached twice (and attachment test2.txt is not attached at all.

CAUSE

A pointer to the attachment structures was not being incremented properly if the attachment count was greater than 1. Therefore, an attachment count greater that 1 references the content in the first attachment structure repeatedly.
