PPT2000: Microsoft Graph Charts May Lose Formatting When Edited (240129)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft PowerPoint 2000
- Microsoft Graph 2000
This article was previously published under Q240129 SYMPTOMS
When you double-click to edit a Microsoft Graph 2000 object in Microsoft PowerPoint 2000, the format of your graph may change. Specifically, gradient fill effects, pattern fill effects, rotated text, background text formatting, and texture fill effects may be changed or lost.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs when you save your presentation in an earlier version of the PowerPoint format (or the PowerPoint 97-2000 & 95 format), close the presentation, and then reopen it for editing.
Microsoft Graph objects are saved in an earlier version format as well, and features that are not supported in earlier versions of Microsoft Graph are discarded or interpreted into a compatible format.
WORKAROUND
Any existing graph objects that are affected by this behavior must be reformatted manually.
To prevent this behavior from occurring, use the following method.
- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the Save tab, clear the Convert charts when saving as previous version check box.
This method allows you to save in the earlier file format or combination file format without losing the formatting applied to your graph objects. However, if you are working with an earlier version of Office, you will not be able to edit graph objects in these presentations.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft PowerPoint 2000.
