Works Suite: Blank Word Document Appears When You Start Task (240003)

SYMPTOMS

When you use the Microsoft Works Suite Task Launcher to start a task in Microsoft Word, the task may not start. Instead, a blank Word document and the Control toolbar may appear on the screen.

NOTE: The Letters task functions as expected.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if the following conditions are true:

  • You set the macro security level in Microsoft Word to High.

  • You click to clear the Trust all installed add-ins and templates check box on the Trusted Sources tab of the Security dialog box.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue:

  1. Start Microsoft Word.
  2. On the Tools menu, point to Macro, and then click Security.
  3. On the Security Level tab, click Medium, and then click OK.
  4. Quit Word, and then start Microsoft Works.
  5. On the Programs tab, click Word, click the task that you want to use, and then click Start.NOTE: After the task starts, you may change the security level back to High.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
