Works 6: Not All Data Is Imported from Earlier Version of Address Book (239995)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 6
- Microsoft Works Suite 2001
This article was previously published under Q239995 SYMPTOMS
When you import a Microsoft Works 4.5 Address Book into a Works 6 or Works Suite 2001 Address Book, all of the data fields may not be imported.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if there are fields that are defined in the Works 4.5 Address Book but which are not defined in the Works 6 Address Book, and those fields are not formatted as text.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, open the Works 4.5 Address Book file in Works 6 Database.
To do so, follow these steps:
- Open a blank Works Database document.
- On the File menu, click Open.
- Browse to find the Works 4.5 Address Book file that you want.
NOTE: It is a *.wbd file. - Click Open.
You can view each record by clicking the arrows in the lower-left corner of the Database window.
MORE INFORMATION
Works 4.5 Address Book files are special templates of Works Database and are *.wdb files. Works 6 Address Book files are *.wab files. A converter is supplied with Works 6 Address Book to convert *.wdb files to *.wab files.
Any fields that are not defined in Works 6 can be added to the Notes tab. The Notes tab is a text field and cannot display data from a field that is not formatted as text, such as a Number field.
