The information in this article applies to:

SYMPTOMS

When you save a Microsoft Works 2000 Word Processor document as a different file type (such as .txt) than the Word Processor .wps file type, and you then open the document from the History tab of the Works Task Launcher, the document appears to be opened as a .wps file.

The file is listed as a .wps file on the Windows caption bar, but the file is listed as a .txt file (or whatever file type it was saved as) in the most recently used documents list at the bottom of the File menu.

Similar symptoms occur with the Works Spreadsheet and Works Database programs.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the Works Task Launcher starts the program that created the file, and then the program opens the file. Other programs, such as Windows Explorer, check the file type and then start the program associated with the file type.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works 2000.
