Works 2000: Word Processor Quits Unexpectedly When You Delete a Table (239984)

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to remove a table by clicking Cut on the Edit menu, Microsoft Works 2000 Word Processor may quit unexpectedly and you may lose all data in the document that has been entered since the last time that you saved the document.

When you are using a computer with the Windows 2000 operating system, the following Dr. Watson error message may appear:

WksWp.exe has generated errors and will be closed by Windows
You will need to restart the program.

An error log is being created.

NOTE: The message appears only if the Visual Notification option is selected for Dr. Watson for Windows 2000.

There are no other symptoms, and when you restart Works Word Processor, everything works as expected.

CAUSE

This issue occurs if all the following conditions are true:

Your insert a table near the top of a document, with no text between the table and the header (or the top of the page, if the document has no header).
You attempt to select the table by placing the insertion point inside the table, and you then drag the insertion point upward and outside the table so that the table does not appear to be selected (no cells inside the table are darkened).
You attempt to cut the table by clicking Cut on the Edit menu, or by pressing CTRL+X, or by right-clicking and then clicking Cut on the shortcut menu.

To work around this issue, follow these steps:

When you are editing a table, make sure that the insertion point stays inside the table.
When you are cutting a table or part of a table, make sure the cells that you want to cut are really selected (the cells are darkened).
