This article was previously published under Q239973 SUMMARY
This article describes how to unbind the AppleTalk protocol from an AppleTalk adapter.
If you unbind the AppleTalk protocol from the primary AppleTalk adapter, you can effectively disable all AppleTalk on the computer. Client computers are not able to connect to the server and routing is disabled.
If you disable the primary AppleTalk adapter, Plug and Play functionality does not find a new AppleTalk adapter to be the primary card. Disabling the adapter turns off AppleTalk and gives the administrator more control and security. Disabling the primary adapter also stops routing or seed routing on the network and clients would need to use a backup router or seed router to route the zones.

Determining which Adapter is the Primary Adapter and Disabling All of the AppleTalk Stacks- Open the "Network and Dial-Up Connections" folder, and then right-click an adapter that is configured to work using AppleTalk.
- Click the AppleTalk protocol listed for that adapter, and then click Properties.
- If the Accept inbound connections on this adapter check box is selected, then it is the primary AppleTalk adapter.
NOTE: If you disable a non-primary adapter's ability to use AppleTalk, Windows 2000 continues to use AppleTalk, route, and seed route.
