SYMPTOMS

When you start a task by using the Microsoft Works 2000 Task Launcher, multiple instances of the task may start, and certain instances of the task may exhibit one or more of the following symptoms:
  • The task may start properly, but without the appropriate wizard.

  • The task may start properly with the appropriate wizard, but the Help pane may be empty.

  • A blank database or spreadsheet containing the following error message may appear on the screen:
    Cannot start Works.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you start the task multiple times in the Works Task Launcher.

RESOLUTION

To prevent this issue from occurring, click the task once, and then wait for the task to start.

NOTE: You only need to click Start once to start a task. Do not double-click Start the way you double-click a program icon.

MORE INFORMATION

In Works 2000, a maximum of eight instances of any combination of Works programs can run at the same time.

For example, no more than eight spreadsheets, or a combination of three spreadsheets and five databases, can run at the same time.
