When you host the WebBrowser control in a Microsoft Visual Basic or Microsoft Visual C++ program and you navigate to a secured site, you may lose the session-state cookies when you perform a file download and then start an external program. When you go back to the Web page, you are prompted to reauthenticate.
RESOLUTION
This issue is resolved in Internet Explorer 5.01.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
