This article was previously published under Q239677 SYMPTOMS After you remove the Microsoft IntelliPoint software, your
mouse buttons may no longer work.
Note Microsoft does not recommend that you remove IntelliPoint because
your pointing device will no longer have full functionality. CAUSE This behavior may occur if both the following conditions
are true:
- You upgrade your operating system.
- You remove the IntelliPoint software after you upgrade your
operating system.
RESOLUTION To resolve this behavior, if you have IntelliPoint software
installed and you want to update the operating system, you must remove
IntelliPoint software before you do so. After you have completed the process of
updating the operating system, install the IntelliPoint software again. To do
this, follow these steps:
- Remove the IntelliPoint Software:
- Click Start, point to Settings, click Control Panel, and then double-click Add/Remove Programs.
- Do either of the following steps:
Note The step that you use depends on the operating system that you
use.
- On the Install/Uninstall tab, select Microsoft IntelliPoint, and then click Add/Remove.
- Under Currently installed
programs, select Microsoft IntelliPoint, and then click Change.
- Click Remove, and then follow the instructions that appear on the
screen.
- Install your new Operating System or System
Upgrade.
- Reinstall IntelliPoint software:
- Locate the IntelliPoint software installation
CD-ROM.
Note If you do not have the IntelliPoint installation CD-ROM, you can
download IntelliPoint from the Microsoft Mouse Web site and save it to your
hard disk. To do so, visit the following Microsoft Web site: - Remove IntelliPoint software.
- After IntelliPoint software has been successfully
removed, install IntelliPoint software again.
Note You may have to restart the computer after the
installation.
