SUMMARY

When you use Microsoft Internet Explorer version 3.02 for Windows, Netscape Navigator version 3.0 or later, or Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.5 for Macintosh, you must use the Microsoft Office Server Extensions Start Page to insert discussions on a Web page or document, view discussion fields, filter discussions, and create Web subscriptions.

Also, if you use Internet Explorer version 4.0 or later and you do not have Microsoft Office 2000 installed, you must use the Microsoft Office Server Extensions Start Page to access the Web Discussion features.

MORE INFORMATION

To access the Microsoft Office Server Extensions Start Page from your browser, type the following in the Address box:

http://<ServerName>/MSOffice/

where <ServerName> is a Web server you can save files to. See your system administrator for the name of a Web server you can save files to.

When you connect to a Web page from the Microsoft Office Server Extensions Start Page, no matter what browser you are using, the Discussions toolbar that appears will look different from the Discussions toolbar that appears when you start a discussion from within Internet Explorer 4 or later. When you open documents on the Web server from the OSE Start Page, an Active Server Pages (ASP) script generates a frame set for discussion items that appear in a separate pane in these browsers.

To access the Discussions features using the Microsoft Office Server Extensions Start Page, use the following steps:
  1. In your browser, type the following in the Address box:

    http://<ServerName>/MSOffice/

where <ServerName> is an Office-Extended Web server; that is, the Web server where Office Server Extensions (OSE) is installed. See your system administrator for the name of a Web server.
  2. On the Microsoft Office Server Extensions Start Page, type the Web address (URL) of the document you want to open in the Web Discussions box.
  3. If the document is on another Web server, select the This is a document on another server check box, and then click Go.
After the Web page or document opens in the browser, use the Discussions toolbar to insert a discussion, view the discussion fields, create a Web subscription, or close the toolbar.
