SYMPTOMS

When you run Microsoft Outlook Personal Folders Backup, you receive the following message:
The backup file location "<path>\pst backup.pst" is already being used by another personal folders file or backup file. Please change the backup file location.

CAUSE

If a personal folders (.pst) file is added to your profile more than once, with or without the same label name, Personal Folders Backup will attempt to configure that .pst for backup twice, each pointing to the same backup .pst file.

RESOLUTION

Remove the unnecessary personal folders service that point to the same .pst.

MORE INFORMATION

To remove a personal folders service:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Services.
  2. On the Services tab, click to select the extra personal folders, and click Remove.
  3. Click Yes to confirm you want to remove it.
  4. Repeat these steps for each extra personal folders service.
  5. Click OK to close the Services dialog box.
NOTE: To check the path of the selected .pst, click Properties and examine the path.
