Winsock Proxy Access Violation When Restarting Service (239487)

SYMPTOMS

The Winsock Proxy service in Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 may cause an "Access violation" error message when the service is restarted.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if a Winsock client has sent a message to the server instance that was already terminated.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, obtain and install Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1 (SP1). For more information about Microsoft Proxy Server 2.0 Service Pack 1, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Proxy Server 2.0.
