"STOP 0x9f" in Symevent.sys When Shutting Down or Restarting Computer (239415)

This article was previously published under Q239415 SYMPTOMS After you install Norton CrashGuard 4.0 or 4.01 for
Microsoft Windows 95/Microsoft Windows 98/Microsoft Windows NT in Windows 2000,
the following error message may be displayed when you shut down or restart your
computer. STOP 0x0000009f Driver_Power_State_Failure
CAUSE This behavior is caused by the Symevent.sys file from
Norton CrashGuard. This can also occur after using the Live Update feature of
Norton CrashGuard to upgrade to version 4.01. RESOLUTION To prevent this behavior from occurring, obtain the updated
version of the Sevinst.exe file (version 10.2.13.4, dated 04/29/1999, or later)
from Symantec. The latest copy of Symevent.sys is available at the
