Works: Documents Are Not Displayed Correctly on the History Tab of the Works 2000 Task Launcher (239401)
The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 2000
- Microsoft Works 6
- Microsoft Works Suite 2001
This article was previously published under Q239401 SYMPTOMS
If you add an extension to a Works 2000 Word Processor document by typing the extension in the File name box, instead of by clicking a document type in the Save as type box, you may experience one of the following behaviors:
- If you type one of the following extensions, the document name is not displayed or an unrecognizable document name is displayed on the History tab in the Works 2000 Task Launcher:
.wpt, .rtf, .txt, .csv, .htm, .html, .htx, .doc, .mcw
NOTE: If the unrecognizable document name is displayed on the History tab, you cannot open the document by clicking it.
- If you type an extension other than the ones listed in this article, the document name is displayed on the History tab in the Works Task Launcher with the extension that you typed, but if you click the document to open it, the document is opened with a .wps extension.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur because Works 2000 either discards the extension that you type in the File name box or includes that extension in the document name itself.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, type the document name without an extension in the File name box, click the document type that you want in the Save as type box, and then click Save.
NOTE: If you do not click a document type, Works uses the default type Works Document (*.wps).
To open a document that you cannot open on the History tab, open the Works Word Processor, click Open on the File menu, click the file that you want to open, and then click Open.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
