This article was previously published under Q239330 SYMPTOMS
When you select a desktop theme, the following error message may appear
THEMES caused an invalid page fault in
module THEMES.EXE at 0137:0040abc6.
and Microsoft Windows 95 may stop responding (hang).
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if you are using Windows 95 with Microsoft Plus 95 installed. When you install Microsoft Works 2000, the .jpg graphic filter (msjpeg32.dll version 4.00) is installed and overwrites the older .jpg graphic filter that comes with Plus 95. The .jpg graphic files installed with Plus 95 use a different compression algorithm, and therefore they are not compatible with the .jpg graphic filter installed with Works 2000.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, replace the Themes.exe file in the C:\Program Files\Plus! folder with a version that supports the newer .jpg graphic filter.
