Works 2000 Err Msg: Works Cannot Locate the Necessary Spelling Files (239329)

When you spell check a word processor document in Microsoft Works 2000, you may receive the following error message:
Works cannot locate the necessary spelling files. To reinstall the files, close your project, and the program, and then run setup again.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if the Works 2000 spelling files are damaged or missing.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, rename the Works 2000 spelling files, and then reinstall Works 2000. To do this, use the following methods in the order in which they are presented.
Rename the Works 2000 Spelling Files
To rename the Works 2000 spelling files:
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files or Folders.
- In the Named box, type mssp232.dll, mssp2_en.lex.
- In the Look in box, click drive where drive is the drive letter of the hard disk on which Microsoft Windows is installed.
- Click to select the Include subfolders check box.
- Click Find Now.
- Right-click the Mssp232.dll file, and then click Rename.
- Type mssp232.old, and then press ENTER.
- Right-click the Mssp2_en.lex file, and then click Rename.
- Type mssp2_en.old, and then press ENTER.
- Close the Find: Files Named Mssp232.dll Mssp2_en.lex window.
Reinstall Works 2000
To reinstall Works 2000:
- Insert the Works 2000 CD-ROM into the CD-ROM drive.
- Click Start, and then click Run.
- In the Open box, type drive:\setup.exe
where drive is the drive letter of the CD-ROM drive.
- Follow the instructions on the screen to reinstall Works 2000.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works 2000.
