Works 6: Programs and History Files Do Not Appear on the Task Launcher (239328)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 6
  • Microsoft Works Suite 2001

This article was previously published under Q239328

SYMPTOMS

A program and its history files may not appear on the Microsoft Works Task Launcher, although the program and history files previously appeared there. This behavior can occur with the following programs:
  • Microsoft Greetings Workshop
  • Microsoft Picture It Express
  • Microsoft Works Word Processor

CAUSE

This behavior can occur when you upgrade a program with a similar program or upgrade to Works Suite 2001 from Works 6. Some programs, such as Microsoft Greetings Workshop, are not part of Works 6, but are added to the Task Launcher when the program is installed on your computer.

MORE INFORMATION

The programs mentioned in the "Symptoms" section are not deleted from the computer, and all the files created with them are still on the computer. The programs are merely removed from the Works Task Launcher.

You can still start any of the programs that are on your computer and open any files created with those programs.

When you install Works 6, and you then install Greetings Workshop 2000, Greetings Workshop is added to the Works Task Launcher. When you subsequently install Microsoft Home Publishing 2000, either by itself or as part of an upgrade to Works Suite, Home Publishing replaces Greetings Workshop on the Task Launcher and removes the Greetings Workshop history files.

When you install Microsoft Picture It Express, either by itself or as part of Works Suite 2000 and then upgrade to Picture It, Picture It replaces Picture It Express on the Task Launcher and removes the Picture It Express history files.

When you upgrade from Works standard to Works Suite and include Microsoft Word, Word replaces Works Word Processor on the Programs tab of the Works Task Launcher and Word Processor history files disappear.
