When you open a Microsoft Works 4.x document in Microsoft Works 2000 Word Processor or later or Microsoft Word, and the Works 4.x document contains a Microsoft Excel or Works spreadsheet that has been inserted as a link, the spreadsheet does not appear.
CAUSE
This issue occurs because the Works 4.x converter does not correctly convert the link to the spreadsheet.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, open the Works 4. x document in Works 2000 or later or Word, and then create a new link to the spreadsheet.
For the link to work, the spreadsheet must exist on your computer or network in either Works 4.5 or Works 2000 format.
To insert a spreadsheet as a link into Works Word Processor, follow these steps:
- On the Insert menu, click Object.
- In the Insert Object dialog box, click Create from File.
- Browse to select the spreadsheet that you want.
- Click to select the Link check box.
- Click OK.
To insert a spreadsheet as a link into Word, follow these steps:
- On the Insert menu, click Object.
- In the Insert Object dialog box, click the Create from File tab.
- Browse to select the spreadsheet that you want.
- Click to select the Link to file check box.
- Click OK.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article. MORE INFORMATION
To work around this issue, open the Works 4.x document in Works 4.x, and then save the document as a Rich Text Format (*.rtf) file. The document is now opened in Works or Word, and the spreadsheet appears.
