This article was previously published under Q239284 SYMPTOMS
When you type text in a Microsoft Works 2000 Word Processor document, and you then change the font of the text, the text may not be preserved and the original characters may no longer be visible.
For example, if you type the following text in a document
and you then change the font, the text may be replaced by a series of question marks (?????????) or a series of square symbols.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur if all of the following conditions are true:
- The original font in the document is a symbol font, such as WingDing.
- You type text in your document using this font.
- You change the font to a non-symbol font, such as Arial.
RESOLUTION
To work around this behavior, do not format the original font to a symbol font. Instead, format the original font to a non-symbol font.
MORE INFORMATION
If the original font is a non-symbol font, such as Arial, you can successfully change the font to a symbol font, and then back to a non-symbol font.
