This article was previously published under Q239263 SUMMARY
The History tab is part of the Microsoft Works Task Launcher listed above. The History tab is a convenient way to review and/or open documents that have been opened, created, or modified by any of the Works and Works Suite Applications.
The "More Information" section of this article describes the specific information contained on the History tab, how the History tab is updated, how to open a document listed on the History tab, how to delete a document from the History tab, and how to sort documents on the History tab.
MORE INFORMATIONWhat the History Tab Contains
The History tab contains a list of every document that has been opened or created by a Works application. The name of the document is listed in the Name column.
NOTE: Templates are not listed in this column. When you save a document as a template, that information is saved on the Task tab under Personal Templates. After the template is used to create a document, the document is listed on the History tab after it has been named and saved.
The date the document was last opened is listed in the Date column.
However, the date of a Picture It Express document is not updated until it has been saved. When you open a Picture It document and close it without saving it, the date does not change.
If the document also appears as a task in another section of the Task Launcher, the task name is listed in the Task column.
NOTE: If the document has been created from a Personal template, the document is listed on the Tasks tab when you click Personal Templates and then click the template name. Templates are also listed in the right pane of the Programs tab. Documents created by a Personal template or a Works template are listed when you click the template.
The program that opens the document is listed in the Program column.
Updating the History Tab
When you create a new document, the document appears on the History tab as soon as you save the document and give it a name. When you open a document that is already listed on the History tab, the Date column is updated immediately (except Picture It Express).
Opening a Document from the History Tab
To open a document from the History tab, click the document. The document can be opened from any of the four columns.
NOTE: If you double-click the document, you open two instances of the same document.
Deleting a Document from the History Tab
To remove a document from the History tab, right-click the document, and then click Delete.
NOTE: Deleting a document from the History tab does not delete the document. When you open a document that has been deleted from the History tab, the document once again appears on the History tab (except a Picture It Express document, which must be saved first).
Sorting Documents on the History Tab
Documents listed on the History tab may be sorted by name, date, task, or program. To sort a program click the column name at the top of the column. When you click Name, the documents are sorted by name in alphabetical or reverse alphabetical order. When you click Date, the documents are sorted by increasing or decreasing chronological order of last use. When you click Task, the documents are grouped by which task they are listed under on the Tasks tab. When you click Program, the documents are grouped according to which program opens each document.
