The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Works 2000
  • Microsoft Works 6

This article was previously published under Q239251

SYMPTOMS

If you try to insert a bullet in a Microsoft Works Word Processor document, an unexpected character may appear instead of the bullet.

CAUSE

This behavior may occur if the Symbol or Wingdings font is not installed on the computer.

Although the bullet appears in the Bullets and Numbering dialog box, Works cannot insert the bullet in the document if the necessary font is not installed on your computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, install the Symbol and Wingdings fonts on your computer.

To do this, follow these steps:
  1. Click Start, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.
  2. Double-click Fonts.
  3. On the File menu, click Install New Font.
  4. In the Drives box, click the drive on which the Symbol and Wingdings fonts are located.
  5. In the Folders box, click the folder in which the Symbol and Wingdings fonts are located.
  6. In the List of fonts box, click Symbol (TrueType), and then press and hold down the CTRL key as you click Wingdings (TrueType), Wingdings 2 (TrueType), and Wingdings 3 (TrueType).
  7. Click OK.
Note You may not be able to find all of these fonts in one location. If this is the case, select the Symbol and Wingdings fonts that are available, and then repeat these steps to install the remaining fonts from a different location.
