Works 2000: Error Message When You Attempt to Use the Thesaurus (239217)

SYMPTOMS

When you open the thesaurus in the Microsoft Works 2000 Word Processor, you may receive the following error message:
The Thesaurus could not lookup ||||||. Files may be damaged or missing. Close your project and the program, and then run setup again to reinstall the files.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs when you attempt to use an English thesaurus to search for a word with a non-English character.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works 2000.

To select the thesaurus that you want to use in the Works 2000 Word Processor:
  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.
  2. In the Choose thesaurus box, click the thesaurus that you want to use, and then click OK.
For more information about how to use the thesaurus, click Microsoft Works Help on the Help menu, type thesaurus in the Office Assistant or the Answer Wizard, and then click Search to view the topics returned.
