Works 2000 Error Message: Sndrec32 Caused an Invalid Page Fault in Module Kernel32.dll (239205)

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a wave audio sound object into a Microsoft Works 2000 Word Processor document, and you then cut that sound object from the document before you insert or record a sound, you may receive the following error message:
Sndrec32 caused an invalid page fault in module Kernel32.dll.
When you click Close, the Works Word Processor continues to function as expected, but the Windows Sound Recorder may no longer function until you restart the computer.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if you are running Works 2000 on a Microsoft Windows 95-based computer.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this issue, upgrade to Microsoft Windows 98 or later.

To work around this issue, use one of the following methods.

Insert a Wave Audio Sound

To insert a wave audio sound:
  1. On the Insert menu, click Object.
  2. Click Create New, click Wave Sound in the Object Type box, and then click OK.
  3. On the Sound Object in Document recorder, click Insert File on the Edit menu.
  4. In the Insert File dialog box, browse to find the wave audio (.wav) sound that you want.

    NOTE: The Windows\Media folder contains a large selection of prerecorded wave audio sound files.
  5. Click the sound file that you want, and then click Open.
  6. Click Play to preview the sound.

Record a Sound in the Sound Object

To record a sound in the sound object:
  1. On the Sound Object in Document recorder, click Record.
  2. Speak into the microphone that is connected to your sound card.
  3. When you have finished recording, click Stop.
  4. To review the recording, click Play or double-click the sound object.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in Microsoft Works 2000.
