Works 2000: Database Hangs When You Insert a Hyperlink into an Embedded Excel Spreadsheet (239198)

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a Microsoft Excel 97 spreadsheet as an object into a Microsoft Works 2000 database, and you then you attempt to insert a hyperlink into a cell of the embedded Excel 97 spreadsheet, the program may stop responding.

CAUSE

This behavior occurs if you are using a Microsoft Windows NT 4.0-based computer and you attempt to insert the hyperlink by clicking Hyperlink on the Insert menu.

RESOLUTION

To work around this issue, insert the hyperlink by pressing CTRL+K on the keyboard:
  1. Double-click the spreadsheet object in the Works database to place the focus on the spreadsheet.
  2. Click an empty cell in the spreadsheet to select the cell.
  3. Press CTRL+K to open the Insert Hyperlink dialog box.
  4. Type the hyperlink that you want or click a hyperlink in the list, and then click OK.
The hyperlink is displayed in the cell as blue underlined text.

Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
