The information in this article applies to:
- Microsoft Works 2000
- Microsoft Works Suite 2000
This article was previously published under Q239178 SYMPTOMS
When you are using the Microsoft Works 2000 Spreadsheet and you attempt to open a Microsoft Excel worksheet, there are no worksheets listed in the Import Excel Spreadsheet dialog box, and only the Cancel button is available.
There is no message explaining why no worksheets are listed.
CAUSE
This behavior can occur when the Excel workbook you are trying to open in Works 2000 is password-protected. NOTE: If only individual worksheets have password protection, the worksheets are listed and the following message appears when you attempt to open a protected worksheet:
This document is password-protected or encrypted.
Open it in the application that saved it, remove the password or encryption, then save it again. Then try to open it again in Works.
RESOLUTION
To work around this issue, remove the password protection from the Excel workbook. To remove password protection, follow these steps:
- Start Microsoft Excel.
- On the File menu, click Open.
- Browse to find the file that you want, and then click Open.
- On the Tools menu, point to Protection, and then click Unprotect Workbook.
- Enter the password, and then click OK.
NOTE: If you want to password-protect an individual worksheet, follow these steps:
- Select the worksheet you want to protect.
- On the Tools menu, point to Protection, and then click Protect Sheet.
- Enter the password you want, and then click OK.
- Confirm the password, and then click Ok.
- On the File menu, click Save, and then close Excel.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed at the beginning of this article.
