XADM: Changing Service Account Password Does Not Affect the Mailbox Manager Service (239075)

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Exchange Server 5.5 SP3

This article was previously published under Q239075

SUMMARY

The Exchange Server administrator grants users the ability to change the service account passwords on Exchange services in a site. However, this ability does not extend to new services such as the Mailbox Manager. If the password changes for the Mailbox Manager's service account, the service information must be updated manually using the Service Control Manager applet.

MORE INFORMATION

To change the password manually for the Microsoft Exchange Server Mailbox Manager service:
  1. In Control Panel, double-click Services, and select the Microsoft Exchange Server Mailbox Manager service.
  2. Click the Startup button.
  3. In the Current Password box, type in the new service account password.
  4. In the Confirm Password box, type the same service account password.
  5. Click OK, and attempt to start the service with the new service account password.
