After you install Windows Messaging and Microsoft Fax in Windows 98, the Scan to Mail command in the Hewlett-Packard (HP) PrecisionScan software starts Windows Messaging instead of Outlook Express as you expect.
CAUSE
This behavior occurs because the HP PrecisionScan software makes a MAPI call to start the target mail program, and Windows Messaging makes itself the default MAPI client.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this issue, use one of the following methods.
Outlook Express 4.x- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the General tab, click to select the Make Outlook Express my default email program" check box.
- On the General tab, click to select the Make Outlook Express my default Simple MAPI client check box.
- Click OK, and then click OK when you are prompted to restart your computer.
Outlook Express 5- On the Tools menu, click Options.
- On the General tab, click Make Default next to This application is the default Mail handler.
- Click Apply, and then click OK.
